Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

When I began homeschooling, I was worried about the high school years. I honestly thought it would be too hard, especially teaching math. Though I did well in Algebra, geometry was a challenge for me. I couldn’t imagine trying to teach it. So, when the Review Crew had a review of TabletClass Math’s homeschool Geometry course, I had to check it out. I love my daughter, but I don’t think I could struggle through geometry again.

What is TabletClass Math?

TabletClass Math is a self-paced online math curriculum for upper-grade math. The math classes are designed for middle school and high school students. Your teacher is John Zimmerman, a certified middle and high school math teacher who provides math courses in:

  • Math Foundations
  • Pre-Algebra
  • Algebra 1
  • Geometry
  • Algebra 2
  • Pre-Calculus
  • Test Prep

For each course you sign up for, you have the option of a monthly or annual membership. You can pay monthly but save 50% on the yearly membership, making it the best deal. I received a one-year membership of the Geometry course for this review.

You access each class through Teachable, which is an easy-to-use online platform. Students access all their coursework here. Inside, students watch video lessons, download worksheets, and view full explanations of their practice problems. There are even online quizzes for each unit.

In addition, parents have a section just for them. The Parent Portal has all the tools you need to help you get started and the resources necessary to use the program with your student.

Here is a peek inside the Parent Portal.

The Parent Portal was very helpful! I found three different schedules depending on the pace I wanted to set for my daughter and a Guidebook that lays out each chapter. The Parent Portal also has worksheets to record chapter tests and a course calculation grade sheet. I printed all this out and used my binder to make a booklet for myself.

It took no time for my daughter to get started. So let’s take a look.

Using This Homeschool Geometry Course

I used the homeschool geometry course with my 10th-grade daughter for this review. Honestly, both of us were not looking forward to geometry, but it is something that needs to get done. I hoped this program would be effective so it wasn’t a struggle for my girl.

We used TabletClass Math as my daughter’s math curriculum, so she used the program daily. I decided to follow the average pace schedule, meaning she would complete the program in 8-10 months. We are starting on month 2 and easily keep up with the set pace. It is projected to finish Chapters 3 and 4 in month 2, and my daughter is already almost done with Chapter 4.

In all, this homeschool geometry course has eleven chapters. Within each chapter, there are three to five sections. My daughter completes one section a day. So, she spends about 40 minutes on math each day which is appropriate for a high school math class.

Getting Started

I set up our account and went through the Parent Portal to get started. As I mentioned, the Parent Portal had everything I needed to get my daughter started. It was super simple to follow.

Next, my daughter logged in to the account and got started right away. First, we made sure she had a notebook for note-taking and a folder for all her math worksheets. Then she was ready to start the lesson.

Homeschool Geometry Course Video Lessons

Each day my 10th grader watched the lesson and had her notebook ready to take notes. I have found, in general, lessons are 10 to 16 minutes long.

The instructor does a great job of explaining concepts and helps students know what to take for notes. He highlights essential information and breaks concepts down into manageable information. Plus, he is very personable and is someone the kids can enjoy taking a class with.

At the end of each lesson, Mr. Zimmerman also reviews the concepts covered for the day and provides class notes. Kids then move on to the example problems.

Example Problems Worksheets

Once my daughter finished the video lesson, she scrolled down the site and printed the example problems. The problems are also online; in theory, I guess kids could just read the problems on the screen and solve them in their notebooks. But, instead, my girl opted to print the W.S.

The answer key is attached to the worksheet, which I didn’t mind. I knew my girl would work on the problems and check her answers. But, most of the time, she downloaded only the problems.

One thing I like about the answer key is that it shows HOW to solve problems. So, kiddos (and parents) know how to work through each problem.

After the example problems were completed, my girl played the videos that walked her through each practice problem. I LOVE this! My daughter truly has a teacher walking her through each problem, so I never fear she’ll get something wrong and not understand why.

Quizzes and Tests

At the end of a chapter, there is an online quiz. The quizzes are 10 multiple-choice questions. Once the quiz is complete, my girl receives her score. If she did poorly, she does have the option to retake it.

One nice thing added to this program is that kids have extra practice problems, which helps reinforce ideas and help kids study for the quizzes and tests.

Since my daughter has done well on all her quizzes, I haven’t had her take the Chapter Test. Instead, I’ve used the quiz as her test score. The tests are lengthier, with 20 questions, and students must write their answers. Calculators are allowed on the tests.

Moving forward, I may start requiring my daughter to do the tests since they are not multiple choice, and she’ll have to supply the answer herself.

Now, let me give you a peek inside the student portal, so you can see what it looks like inside.

Overall Thoughts of this Homeschool Geometry Course

I have to say that I am very impressed with this homeschool geometry course. There are many things I like about it.

  • The video lessons are well done and thorough.
  • Kids learn to take notes.
  • Videos walk kids through each example.
  • The course is easy to use and should work for different learners.
  • Extra practice worksheets are available.
  • Class notes are provided, though kids are encouraged to take their own notes.
  • The final grading of the course is explained to the parent.
  • It doesn’t require a lot of parental involvement.

Overall, my daughter can complete her coursework on her own. I go through and write what lesson she needs to complete each day, but it isn’t necessary. She could easily just keep moving through the videos.

When I asked my daughter what she thought of the program, she said she liked the video lessons. She likes the teacher and thinks he explains the math concepts well. She also likes the extra practice pages she does before each quiz.

So, I went a step further and asked if she preferred this program or the one we were using (which he had started doing geometry in). She said she liked this math program better than the one she was just using. Going through each problem is a big help. She still doesn’t like geometry, but she likes this homeschool geometry course and isn’t struggling with it. As for next year, she would like to use TabletClass Math’s Algebra 2 program.

Well, TableClass Math was a win in our homeschool. Other families from the Review Crew reviewed this and other math courses from this company. Be sure to click on the banner below to read their reviews.
