Hi, I’m Sharon Rowley
I’m a homeschool mom, former teacher, and the creator behind The Secret Life of Homeschoolers.
I live in a small rural town in Maine with my husband, two kids, our cat, and a rabbit that keeps life entertaining. Between homeschooling, scouting adventures, teen schedules, and cheering on a college kid, life is usually busy, a little messy, and never boring.

Like many homeschool moms, I know what it feels like to want meaningful learning experiences without spending every waking hour planning them.
My journey in education started more than 20 years ago as a fourth-grade teacher. Over the years, I taught special education, ran my own daycare and preschool, and eventually began homeschooling my own children. Through every stage, one thing became clear: kids learn best when learning feels connected, engaging, and rooted in curiosity.
That belief completely shaped the way I approach homeschooling.
I created The Secret Life of Homeschoolers to help busy homeschool families bring more fun, creativity, and confidence into their days without adding more stress. Around here, you’ll find hands-on activities, practical homeschool ideas, themed learning fun, and encouragement for the days when homeschooling feels overwhelming.
Because honestly? Homeschooling doesn’t have to look perfect to be meaningful.
I know how easy it is to fall into the pressure of trying to “do it all.” The endless curriculum choices, the comparisons, the feeling that you should always be doing more. But I believe some of the best learning happens through connection, real-life experiences, creativity, and simply enjoying time together as a family.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and working with children through classrooms, preschool programs, scouting, 4-H, and homeschooling. Today, I focus on creating resources and activities that help families learn together in ways that feel manageable, memorable, and genuinely fun.
My goal isn’t to help you create a picture-perfect homeschool.
It’s to help you build a homeschool life that works for your family.
Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been homeschooling for years, I’m so glad you’re here. I hope this space helps you feel encouraged, inspired, and reminded that you don’t have to do homeschooling alone.
