Spread the love

Whenever I think of summer, I think warm sunny days and ICE CREAM. Ice cream is smooth, cold, and satisfying, especially on a hot day. We don’t always have it around the house. Plus, too much ice cream is not the healthiest. So, why not make “nice” cream?!

What is “nice” cream?

Well, “nice” cream is a frozen dessert made with bananas instead of milk. So, it is great for people that have a dairy allergy and for those that are vegan. Not to mention, this frozen treat can be a lower calorie dessert than ice cream.

Let me show you how to make this yummy treat with your kids!

Making “Nice” Cream

“Nice” cream is super simple to make and uses up any bananas you having browning on the counter. So, instead of making banana bread all the time, you can use your soft bananas for “nice” cream.

The recipe we made was a peanut butter “nice” cream. Don’t worry. I’ll also share some ways to make other flavors, too.

First, break the bananas into chunks and put them in the food processor or blender. I used my Ninja.

Next, you will blend the bananas until it is a smooth mixture. Notice my five bananas were reduced down to three cups. Keep this in mind when you are making it. You can use more or fewer bananas depending on how much you want to make.

Once the bananas were blended, I added in my powdered peanut butter. I use powdered peanut butter because it has fewer calories than regular peanut butter. You can use regular peanut butter, though.

The 2 tablespoons of powdered peanut butter tasted just right to us. You can adjust to suit your taste.

If you want chocolate chips, now is the time to add them. I used two tablespoons, but seriously, who measures chocolate chips?! Put in as much as you like. I am able to remove the blades from my Ninja. I did so and then mixed in the chocolate chips.

Lastly, you will pour your mixture into your container, put on the cover, and put it in the freezer. It will probably take several hours to freeze depending on how much mixture and the size of your container.

Some people freeze the bananas first, make the ice cream, and then freeze it for 30 to 60 minutes to thicken it up a little. It’s up to you.

Variations

The great thing about this dessert is you can make so many different varieties. Each kid can make their own flavor in individual serving sizes, too!

How to Make other Flavors

  • You can make fruity flavors. Add fresh or frozen fruit to your banana mixture to make a different flavor. You can add as much fruit to the mixture until you get the flavor you desire.
  • Add in cocoa powder for a chocolaty treat. You may want to add in a little sweetener so it isn’t so bitter.
  • Kids may enjoy adding other candies and nuts to their banana ice cream mixture.

All you need to do is use your bananas as the base and go from there!

Sizes

You can make this banana ice cream treat in a variety of sizes. You can use what you have for bananas in the house. Add in your flavoring a little at a time to find the right amount of flavoring you prefer.

The girl loves making peanut butter. I’m going to try making coffee flavor sometime soon. It’s a good way to use up old bananas.
