As the days get warmer, don’t you start itching to get outdoors?! I certainly do. Spring can be a hard time, though, with rainy days and the muddy ground left in its wake. Not to mention, not everyone can travel too far from home and enjoy being outside. So, I decided to create a packet of activities your kids can do inside and some outside near your home that has to do with the great outdoors.
The Great Outdoors Activity Packet
So, what will you find inside this outdoor activity packet? You will find printable worksheets to use with your elementary kids. Take a look at what’s inside.
Great Outdoors Word Searches
First off, you will find some fun word searches. One easy and one a little more challenging. They are suitable for elementary grade kids. They are a fun activity for a day you’re stuck inside but longing to get out. It will get your kids thinking of the fun things they’d like to do.
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt
Next, you can find a simple scavenger hunt most people can do in their own backyard or nearby park. I know some people live in more urban areas, but most of the items are pretty common in most areas.
With the scavenger hunt, you can make it as simple or challenging as you’d like. If you have little ones, they can merely find the items and check them off.
If you have older kids, they can do a little more. You can have kids name the trees and birds found along the way. This leads us to another item in the outdoor activity packet.
Plant Research Packet
Whether your kids are young or upper elementary grades, the plant research packet is fun to do. With the younger kids, they can place pictures of flowers and trees they see or draw them. Mom or dad can help then find out some information about what they found.
When it comes to your older kiddos, they can research more information on their own about the flowers and trees they find. They can look up scientific names, details about each plant, and do a more in-depth report. It can be a lot of fun.
Great Outdoors Coloring Page
Lastly, the outdoors packet includes a coloring page. It can be just that, or you can have your children find items in the picture. For example, have them find the bee, ladybug, singing bird, squirrel, etc. You can even have preschoolers count how many birds or flowers they can find.
Outdoor Fun
Whether you are stuck inside or confined to your neighborhood, these activities will lift your spirits and get you thinking of all the fun things you can do once you are able to enjoy the great outdoors.
