Every year, the Homeschool Review Crew votes on their favorite homeschool curriculum and resources that they reviewed during the year. This year, I reviewed middle and high school products since my son is in 7^th grade and my daughter is in 9^th. So, I wanted to share some of MY favorite homeschool products reviewed.

Favorite Homeschool Products Reviewed

When picking the Blue Ribbon Favorites for the Crew, I had a lot of categories to vote on. Therefore, I won’t break it down into all the categories but share my overall favorite homeschool products reviewed in 2021 (and the ones we are still using).

From January 2021 until November of the same year, I enjoyed reviewing 25 different homeschool products. I can honestly say there weren’t any products I didn’t like.

So, let me share some of my favorites from the year.

Favorite Reading Curriculum and Supplements Reviewed

In the reading category, I reviewed a few products we really enjoyed and found very helpful.

First off, my daughter and I LOVED LightSail for Homeschoolers. We were amazed by the large selection of books! My daughter is still working her way through all the classic books, even in her spare time. This was her Teen Choice award for her favorite homeschool product this year.

LightSail for Homeschoolers offers so many great ways to build a reading curriculum for your kids. They have books, non-fiction material, videos, and more. I love creating my own units for my kids by adding in a selection of books, videos, and World Book articles on a particular topic. You can even add quizzes to check on comprehension. Check it out for yourself.

The other reading resource we really enjoyed was YWAM Publishing’s Heroes of History series. My son read their book on Alan Shepard. The books make biographies interesting for kids. I love the unit studies that come along with each book.

The final reading curriculum I enjoyed and will use again is Progeny Press’s literature study guides. My girl and I have been using their Interactive Literature Study Guide of Frankenstein. The questions are thought-provoking and provide an excellent addition to a high school English course. I will definitely buy more of their study guides.

Favorite Language Arts Homeschool Products Reviewed

When it comes to Language Arts, I have three picks. Two are favorite homeschool products my daughter and I like and one my son enjoys.

The two products my girl and I liked were the ones she used. My girl loves writing and felt Everyday Education’s product Handbook for Writers is a big help to improving her writing. I thought it was very well done also. We also really love the Ready to Teach vocabulary curriculum, It’s NOT Greek to Me. It is an EXCELLENT vocabulary program. Kids will learn Greek roots, prefixes, and suffixes to help them figure out the meaning of unknown words.

My son also used a vocabulary program for the Review Crew. He used The Critical Thinking Co.’s Vocabulary Virtuoso. It is the first time he’s used a vocabulary program, and he really enjoys it. He is still working his way through the book. It is a good place for him to start. The Critical Thinking Co. always has such great products.

Favorite Math Products Reviewed

Math. I can say this is one subject I don’t care for, and I am glad to find good products that help ME teach my kids or do the teaching for me. During this year’s Crew reviews, I found some math products I enjoyed and will continue to use.

As was the case last year, I reviewed CTCMath. You can read last year’s review here and this year’s review here. CTCMath is my son’s math curriculum this year. I like the videos and how it grades everything for me.

Another math product reviewed this year was by Demme Learning. We used their AIM for Multiplication with a Bridge to Divison program. It is meant to help older kids memorize their multiplication facts, and it worked for us. YAY! Finally, my son has his facts mastered.

Next, I want to share a fun math game for kids. It is called Baggin’ the Dragon. It is an adaptive math game that my kids really enjoy. Another cool thing is both kids, in different grades, can play it together! Each child receives math problems at their own ability level so they can play together. It is great.

The final homeschool product reviewed in the math category I liked was Basic Math Skills Rescue Part 1 and 2. I really like the teaching style of Richard Fisher, the math teacher in the videos, and the worksheets for practice. I liked it so much that I switched my daughter to his Algebra workbook and videos this year. I’d encourage you to check out Math Essentials if your kids need math help.

My Favorite Fine Arts Products Reviewed this Year

Boy, we were lucky this year with reviewing some great fine arts homeschool products. I had a hard time choosing just one for the Review Crew, but I can share all the ones we liked with you.

When it came to my overall favorite product for the year (not just art), it was Creating a Masterpiece. My kids LOVE this art curriculum, too. The videos are excellent! When you are finished, you DO have a masterpiece. We are having so much fun with Art History and all the other lessons in this program. We even use this program for fun on the weekends, not just for homeschool art.

Another great fine arts program reviewed is Maestro Mastery by Byron’s Games. Even though this is a simple matching game of famous composers through history, my teen and almost teen enjoy playing it. Byron’s Games does a great job of making games that fit any age and put a neat spin on learning information. This was my son’s favorite product reviewed this year. We still use it for music.

The last fine arts product I want to share is by ARTistic Pursuits. We really like their art programs. This year we reviewed their Watercolor Pencil curriculum. As usual, they didn’t disappoint. Plus, we learned a new art medium. Watercolor pencils were new to us.

Favorite Social Studies Homeschool Products Reviewed

For us, Home School in the Woods is always a winner. We love their history unit studies. Over the summer, we had fun reviewing their Wonders of the World Lap-Pak. It added a lot of fun to our summer learning. The kids created a pagoda, the Great Wall of China, and more. Plus, they enjoyed the audio clips that provided information on each Wonder they studied. You should check them out for yourself.

Later in the year, we reviewed World Watch. It is a news program for kids. In ten minutes or less, kids learn about current events and so much more. All is done in a kid-friendly (and Christian) way, so you don’t need to worry about kids watching the news.

Favorite Elective Product Reviewed

To start the year off, we tackled Personal Finance Lab. We did their financial literacy curriculum and used their Budget Game and Stock Market game. Boy, did my kids learn A LOT about finances. They learned, in a safe environment, about paying bills and making all kinds of financial decisions. So, if you want your kids to learn financial literacy in a fun way, this is it.

Favorite All-in-One Curriculum and Supplement Products Reviewed

Finally, I want to share two other great curriculum options with you. Both of these products are all-in-one; they contain work for multiple ages and multiple subjects.

Of course, my first choice is SchoolhouseTeachers.com. It is one product I didn’t know I needed until I started using it while working with the Review Crew. SchoolhouseTeachers.com provides a complete curriculum for every grade and all subjects. Over the past two years, I have used core classes and a ton of electives with my kids. As a result, I have two reviews- one here and here you can read.

The last homeschool favorite product review I wanted to mention was Cross Seven. Cross Seven has a wonderful musical memory tool. Kids learn information in all subject areas that are set to music. So many kids could benefit from this. Music can really help kids learn information. My son used it to memorize his states and capitals. We still hum along with the tunes today.

Favorite College Prep Product Reviewed

I was so excited to review the Comprehensive Record Solution by The HomeScholar! I have a ninth-grade daughter and was anxious to learn how to create excellent high school records. Lee Binz did not disappoint. If you are scared about homeschooling high school, check this out. You will feel better prepared after going through this program.
