A Mother’s Success: A Quote for Moms to Show You’re Not Alone

Spread the love

One day, I was scrolling through my Facebook feed, just wasting time. You know how it is. You have a few minutes, so you just mindlessly pop open your phone and start checking out your social media feeds. I love finding fun homeschool quotes or memes. I also love finding a great quote for moms.

Well, on this particular day, I was struck by a quote for moms that I came across. So, I stopped and read it carefully. It said, “A mother’s job is to teach her children not to need her anymore. The hardest part of that job is accepting success.” (Rochelle B. Weinstein).

Well, if that isn’t the truth, I don’t know what is! This quote for moms really spoke to me.

As parents, and especially as homeschooling parents, we have the privilege of watching our children grow. We are a part of their learning day in and day out. Every day we help them grow and build lasting relationships with one another. It is one of the best things about homeschooling.

Now, when you are in the thick of it trying to homeschool multiple kids, keep everyone clean and fed, and happy, it might not sink in that you are training your kids to not need you.

However, things become real when that little one is suddenly a teen or in high school. They start talking about their future, driving, and talking about getting a job. Whoa!

It hits you then. You realize that your little one doesn’t need you anymore like they used to. This is good…but it is also a little sad.

I have reached this stage in our homeschool. My girl is learning to drive and talking about getting a job. Even my brand-new teen talks about going away all next summer to be a camp counselor.

Part of me wants to stop it because I want them all to myself. I want to make every moment last. But I know I can’t. They need to grow up and learn to do things for themselves.

It is exciting to see our kids grow and become competent young adults. But it is okay, mom if it makes you a little sad.

I know it is a hard transition for me.

We all know that our role as moms is to help our children be successful adults, and we rejoice to see it happening. But I think Rochelle is right; accepting our success as moms is the hardest part.

Just know you are not alone (or else people wouldn’t be sharing this quote for other moms to see). All moms deal with this in varying degrees. We can only hope that along the way, we built lasting relationships that continue to grow even when they go off on their own.

So, mom, keep doing your job right, and one day you will see it rewarded through bittersweet tears.
