Autumn is on its way. The days are cooler. Kids are back to school. Plus, there are many different celebrations to look forward to throughout the season. Take advantage of this time of year with some fun fall writing prompts.

We all know that it is sometimes hard for kids to come up with something to write. You look over, and your child is staring at a blank piece of paper complaining there is NOTHING to write about.

Sometimes, though, kids need to try something new for a change. I’m sure you know a kid that will only write a story involving Minecraft or whatever their latest obsession is.

Well, here is where these 20 fall prompts come in. It doesn’t matter if you have a child that never knows what to write or one that is on story number 210 on horses. There is sure to be something to interest them and get them writing.

Fall Writing Prompts

As you settle into the new school year, keep these writing prompts nearby. Prompts are a helpful way to fill time, provide topics for journals, or give kids a different type of writing to explore.

You can assign your kids a prompt or keep them somewhere for kids to get ideas. It is up to you.

As you look through the list, you will notice different kinds of writing. Some lean towards persuasive writing while others ask the kids to do research. In other cases, kids can let their imaginations run wild with a creative writing prompt.

I’m sure you can find something to meet the needs of the kiddos you have in your home or classroom. However, most of the fall writing prompts are probably best for grades four and up.

I made sure to include writing prompts appropriate for the fall months.
