The Sunshine Blogger Award

Spread the love

Blogging can be a real challenge. It is especially hard when you are starting out. You’re not sure if what you are doing is making an impact and if it is worth all the hard work. You keep going on because you love what you do, and you know deep down it does impact someone in this big world.

I was having one of those moments of doubt this morning when I saw that a fellow blogger, Okay With The Mess, nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. This made my day. The award is given to bloggers who inspire and spread joy to others. To see I was nominated meant a great deal to me. It validated that I am doing something right.

Okay with The Mess is a blog about the Potter Family. They have two kids and one on the way. You can check out their blog here. They have information on homeschooling and family life.

Here are the rules for the Sunshine Award nomination:

  1. Thank the blogger(s) that nominated you and link their blogs.
  2. Answer the 11 questions that blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers you think deserve this award and write them 11 new questions!
  4. Display the Sunshine Blogger Award photo on your post and/or blog!

As part of the nomination, bloggers are asked a series of questions. Here are the answers to the questions I was asked.

  1. The first is not really a question, but: Share a short story from your early days of motherhood. I can remember so vividly the day my daughter was born. The midwife announced, “Let’s get ready for a birthday party”, and the next thing I knew she was handing me, my daughter. It felt so alien to me. I couldn’t believe this little bundle was mine. Motherhood became so real at that moment.
  2. What do you do on days when things just aren’t working out in your home? In other words – what is your “reset button” with your kids?      When we need a reset, we end up in the kitchen. We bake something yummy and work on crafts. After, we usually end up reading for fun.
  3. What music do you love to share with your kids? My kids should have grown up in the 80s with me. I love listening to music from the 80s and early 90s, and my kids love it, too.
  4. How did you come up with the name of your first child? (You don’t need to share their real name if you’d rather not.) I love older names and more formal names. My husband and I both had Elizabeth on our list so we went with it.
  5. What has been a favorite trip you’ve taken with your family?  One of my favorite trips I’ve taken with my family is to West Quoddy Head. We had fun exploring the beach, hiking the trails, and visiting the bog. It was a fun day together.
  6. What is a possession of yours that makes parenting easier for you? A calendar. I couldn’t keep track of all we do without our calendar.
  7. Do you have any pets? Share a little about them. We have a cat and 5 chickens. Our cat, Max, is a tough guy. He doesn’t let anyone push him around. You bother him; he’ll let you know it. Our chickens are our pets, too. They are babied beyond belief. Each has its own personality, and they are fun to be around.
  8. Besides blogging, do you work another job outside or inside the home? I don’t have any other jobs, but I do volunteer as a den leader in Cub Scouts and help out in 4-H.
  9. What has been a favorite book or book series you’ve enjoyed reading with your kids? We are really enjoying the Grimm Sisters series right now.
  10. What’s one great thing about the place where you live? I love that it is rural but close enough to get to stores and fun places in nearby cities.
  11. And lastly – what is one important lesson you’ve learned that you desire to share with your family? One important lesson I have learned is life is all about change. I always envisioned myself teaching in public schools and living in Southern Maine near my parents. Now  I am two hours away, a homeschooling mom, and blogger. Life has its twists and turns, and you never know where you will end up. It isn’t a bad thing

I nominate the following bloggers:

Mama Bear Outdoors

Raising Arrows

Homeschool Your Boys

Lemon Blessings

Exploring Through Life

Funky Crunchy Mama

Quintessential Chaos

Califf Creations

The House That Never Sleeps

This list contains some great bloggers. They cover parenting and homeschool topics. You should check them out. They are all bloggers I follow.

Now here are my questions:

  1. What is something you want people to know about you?
  2. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
  3. What are you most proud of?
  4. What is something you couldn’t do without as a parent?
  5. What do you do to relax?
  6. What is your favorite thing to do with your kids?
  7. What is your favorite book?
  8. What do you love about blogging?
  9. What is your favorite comfort food?
  10. What is your favorite season?
  11. Where would you like to bring your kids?

Keep on blogging!
