Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

Over the past several months, I’ve seen American Coaching Academy on social media. They were showing these colorful Healthy Habit Trackers that looked pretty cool. Then one day, the Review Crew put out a form looking for reviewers for those Healthy Habit Trackers. I was excited to give them a try with my kids. It looked like such a great way to include PE activities in our homeschool. And it did!

I have two kiddos. One is 13, and the other is 15. So, with teens in the house, I am always trying to find ways they can incorporate physical activity appropriate for their age. I feel it is crucial NOW to get them into healthy habits they will keep with them for a lifetime.

Let’s face it, in today’s technological world, it is hard to compete with video games and YouTube. I didn’t want my kids sitting around all the time.

We used to be able to include a lot of fun physical education activities in our homeschool. However, as teens, it can be hard. These trackers were a perfect solution to adding some good PE activities to our home.

American Coaching Academy- Creating Healthy Habits in Kids

So, let me share with you what we received from the American Coaching Academy. We received digital downloads that included 12 different habit trackers for kids. Most are centered around PE activities, but a few others help kids with other habits like chores and kindness.

The Healthy Habit Trackers help kids, and their families create and stick with good habits. Each tracker is a 30-Day challenge. All you need to do is print off the tracker, mark off each day you meet the goal, and continue. It is that simple.

The 12 Healthy Habit Trackers cover:

  1. Muscular Endurance (build muscle stamina)
  2. Household Chores (get in the habit of helping around the house)
  3. Healthy Body Building (overall healthy body habits like sleep, self-care, etc.)
  4. Kindness (make being helpful and kind a habit)
  5. Nutrition (eating from the different food groups)
  6. Locomotor (improve strength, balance, coordination)
  7. Boot Camp (improve fitness level)
  8. Yoga Flow (build strength and flexibility to improve health)
  9. Cardio (improve cardio endurance so you can do high-intensity activities for extended periods)
  10. Flexibility (work on range of motion)
  11. Muscular Strength (work on the ability to move and lift weight)
  12. Bee Fit (pulls exercises from the various categories for overall health)

These 30-Day Challenges are great to do as a family, class, or individual. You can use them for fun PE activities, games, group challenges, or brain breaks during your day.

For the physical activity challenges, there is a list of exercises and pictures that demonstrate the activity. Then, kids go through the circuit of activities. It only takes about 5 minutes, and when they finish, kids color it on their sheet. For more of a challenge, kids are encouraged to do 2-3 circuits of the exercises.

When it comes to the other habits like chores, eating healthy, and kindness, kids color each day they do the activity. For example, for the 30-Day Nutrition Challenge, kids color each day in which they drink 5 glasses of water and eat 2 servings of each: fruit, vegetables, lean protein, and grains.

There are plenty of options for kids to improve different areas of their lives. Each tracker is unique, with different ways to track information.

How We Used These Trackers for PE Activities

In our household, both kids chose their own challenges. I planned on joining in and making it a family thing. Unfortunately, I could not participate in this during the review period because of an injury. However, I have the Cardio and Muscular Strength Challenge printed and ready to go to help train for a big hiking trip next month.

PE Activities for My Middle Schooler

My son instantly came to mind when I first saw these Healthy Habit Trackers. He is 13 years old and takes karate. Part of karate is doing basic exercises, which is very tough for him and the others in the dojo. He just finished his latest testing, and the warmup exercises were brutal. So he decided he needed to work on getting better.

Perfect!

The Boot Camp challenge was what my son needed. Most of the exercises for this challenge are what he does for basics that are difficult for him. So I was thrilled there was something that would help him out and help him make sure he was doing it consistently.

For the Boot Camp Challenge, he had to do:

  • 5 burpees
  • 5 sidekicks each leg (he did his karate sidekicks)
  • 10 pushups
  • 10 sit-ups (he usually did crunches like in karate)
  • 5 squat jumps
  • 30-second-high plank

Kids are encouraged to do 2 or 3 circuits of these exercises. My son started with one circuit and built up to doing two.

He got his heart pumping! It was an excellent PE activity that got him away from the computer, incorporated homeschool PE, and improved his overall health and skills for karate.

PE Activities for My High Schooler

My 15-year-old girl chose a different habit tracker. She decided to work on the Cardio Challenge. Each day she did two circuits of these exercises, which I counted as part of her PE requirements.

PE Activity Cardio Challenge

For her, she had to do one minute of each of the following activities:

  • jumping jacks
  • run in place
  • jump and reach
  • freestyle dance
  • hop in place

After doing 2-3 circuits, she had completed 10 to 15 minutes of PE activities. This is not only adding to her other physical activity but helping build her cardio for the hiking trek we’ll be doing in August.

Overall Thoughts

American Coaching Academy has made some healthy habit trackers that are flexible to use in your home or school. You can use individual challenges or choose a couple. They work for a variety of age levels. However, I don’t know if older teens would be bothered by the cartoon-looking pictures.

My daughter didn’t mind the cartoon pictures, but my son didn’t care for them as much. As you may have noticed from my kiddos’ trackers, my girl colored hers in, while my son just circled them. He didn’t care about coloring them but really didn’t need to.

Overall, these 30-Day Healthy Habit Trackers are an excellent concept to help kids learn to build habits. Although these are designed for kids, it is a great concept for any age. This gives a way to track and be intentional with creating good habits.

My son did the muscular endurance challenge, and I told him it would help with his Taekwondo! My other son did the household chores challenge. It will be a great way to make sure they both get enough physical activity during the homeschool year.
