Favorite Homeschool Resources of 2020

Spread the love

Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.

Over the past year, I have been a reviewer for the Homeschool Review Crew. My kids and I have had so much fun trying all kinds of homeschool resources together. It has been a wonderful experience, and I wanted to share with you some of our favorite homeschool resources we used this year.

Our Favorite Homeschool Resources

I will admit, it is hard for me to narrow down my favorite homeschool resources. My family tried out 27 different products over 2020! In this time period, we reviewed products in math, spelling, writing, reading, art, coding, and more. It is quite an extensive list. Check out under the Curriculum and Resource tab at the top of the page to see all my different reviews.

So to help me narrow down my top homeschool resources, I decided to list the ones that have become a regular part of our homeschool AND ones in which we hadn’t used products from that company before.

Also, my kids wanted to get in the action. It is all well and good for me to share what I liked. However, it is another to see what the kids enjoyed using. So, I will also share what their top picks are too.

My Favorite Homeschool Resources

As I stated, this was tough. There were so many great products. However, looking back there are a few new products that we continue to incorporate in our daily homeschooling.

  1. Let’s Go Geography Year 2- My son and I enjoyed using Let’s Go Geography and still use it today. It is a fun and easy way to learn world geography. We enjoy watching the videos, reading the facts, and exploring our atlas to find out more. I like how multiple ages can use the program together. It is a big help for homeschool families.
  2. Home School in the Woods Election Lap Pak– I never would have guessed studying the election process could be fun (neither could my kids for that matter). However, we loved using Home School in the Woods. After hearing about this company, we ended up buying other products of theirs to use in our homeschool. It is one of our all-time favorite homeschool resources.
  3. My Teaching Library- This has become my number one go-to educational resource page. It has hundreds of educational resources from toddlers up to teens. Plus, it has helpful products for educators too. I will definitely continue my membership with this program because it is such a help to our homeschool.
  4. Pitsco Education- I had never heard of this company before but was impressed with all their STEM kits for kids of all ages. We tried out their Middle School Creator Kit and had a lot of fun with it. I will definitely buy kits from them in the future.

Homeschool Products I Love (but HAVE used before)

  1. Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW)- I have used IEW in the past. We are currently using their Fix-It Grammar and have used their Structure and Style writing program previously. They updated their Structure and Style Level B program, so I decided to give it a try. I loved it! It is perfect for my son. We will continue to stick with IEW’s writing programs from now on.
  2. Memoria Press– I really like Memoria Press’s curriculum. We have bought many homeschool resources from them over the years. When I had the opportunity to review their First Form Latin program, I was excited. They didn’t disappoint. The videos do a good job teaching Latin, and all the materials are helpful. We are still using it today.

Kids Homeschool Picks of 2020

When asking my kiddos their favorites, their personal interests and learning styles are very noticeable. You’ll also notice some of my favorites were theirs too.

My Son’s Favorite Products

My son is 11 years-old. He completed 5th grade and started 6th grade this year. Here are his favorites.

  • Workman Publishing- You may not recognize the company name, but they wrote Everything You Need to Ace Computer Science and Coding In One Big Fat Notebook. My boy really enjoyed reading and working through the book. The book is in a fun notebook-style that makes it look like someone’s class notes. It is a very useful and engaging book.
  • Pitsco Education– Yup, he chose Pistco Education’s STEM kits as one of his favorites. He had fun making the friction climber and learning how it works, and the balloon cars were a hit.
  • Homeschool Code Academy– This online coding class was by far my son’s favorite. Homeschool Code Academy teaches how to code using Python. They have meaningful lessons and activities for the kids to do.

As you can see, my son is a STEM kid. He especially loved all the coding products we received. On a side note, my daughter did not review Homeschool Code Academy; only my son did.

My Daughter’s Favorite Homeschool Resources

As for my daughter, she is the oldest in the family. She is 13 years old. At the beginning of the year, she was in 7th grade and is currently in 8th. She has a few different picks than her brother. One of the products she chose as a favorite was not reviewed by him.

  • Home School in the Woods Election Lap Pak– My girl loved doing their Election Lap Pak. She loved all the hands-on projects and the beautiful lap pak she had in the end. It was a lot of fun for her, and she has requested we find other historical products of theirs to do.
  • YWAM Publishing– For this review, my daughter read a book from the Heroes of History series put out by YWAM Publishing. She read Milton Hershey: More Than Chocolate and did some of the unit study activities that went along with it. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the book and will be choosing more to read. They are very engaging and appealing to kids. It isn’t a dry biography for sure.
  • Rebecca Locklear’s Exploring the U.S. Life Saving Service 1878-19-15- Boy, I can say we were all surprised how fun this unit study turned out to be. My daughter even chose it for one of her top 3 products. It had a lot of interesting information and hands-on activities. She really enjoyed the scenario activities the best. It was always interesting to see what the outcome would be.

Overall Top Homeschool Resource Picks

As you can see, some of my kiddos favorites were the same as mine. I honestly liked all the products they chose as their favorites too. It was a really fun year trying out all these things.

Crew 2020 Blue Ribbon Favorites

Now at the end of each year, the Homeschool Review Crew announces the Crew 2020 Blue Ribbon Favorites. The Crew members are invited to vote on their family’s favorite products from the year. To find out the results and what other families enjoyed, click HERE.

I hope your family has found some new favorites to add to your homeschool. I invite you to browse through all my reviews under Curriculum and Resources at the top of this site. Find out more about all the great products we used this year.
