Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew.
We don’t watch the evening news around here because I don’t want my kids exposed to it right now. But, they aren’t sheltered from it by any means. We discuss what is going on in the world, but they don’t need to SEE it right now. However, that has changed, since we have been watching the news with WORLD Watch, a teen news program.
As part of the Homeschool Review Crew, we have been fortunate to receive a subscription to WORLD Watch news. We have been thoroughly enjoying it, and I no longer worry what images and information will pop up on a news program we are watching.
Let me share with you a little about this program, how we’ve been using it, and why you might like to give it a try too.

WORLD Watch- Teen News
So, what is WORLD Watch?
WORLD Watch news is an online streaming teen news program. Your family can try it for free for 30 days before subscribing. I like when companies give you a substantial free trial period to see if it fits your family. Often, as homeschoolers, we are very careful with the money we spend on resources for our homeschool. With a long free trial, you can try it out and see for yourself.
What is This Teens News Program Like
Well, kids receive news stories Monday through Friday. So if you miss a broadcast, don’t worry. You can view the last six daily news reports. We had to go back some days and do this. My daughter wanted to because she didn’t want to miss the news.
Each news segment is around four to ten minutes long, depending on the news for the day. It was just the right length for its intended audience.
You can also view news by clicking under The Newscast, Recent Episodes, or Featured Stories. We used all three of these features but usually started with The Newscast.
The News Stories
There are a variety of news stories featured each day. It covers the top news worldwide, but it is presented in an unbiased and kid-friendly way. We watched top stories on topics such as the Olympic Games in Japan, Venezuela’s economy, and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
All the stories we watched were age-appropriate. I never worried the stories would be too graphic. However, the news wasn’t simplified so much that the stories were watered down so kids didn’t understand what was really going on in the world.
Along with the top stories, there were human interest stories like a walrus in Ireland climbing into a boat, images of the glass octopus, and the history of the Smithsonian.
Other stories are very informative. For example, there was one great segment on the history of neon lights and how they work. While another piece called What in the Word discussed the history of the phrase “starting from scratch.” One reoccurring segment kids will enjoy is called Signature Science. There are many different fun science topics covered.
WORLD Watch informs and educates kids about the world around them in a Christian-friendly way. Christian organizations/businesses sponsor them, which is evident in the commercials. By the way, there is only one commercial in each news report; either one in the middle or at the end.
I want to note (because I know some homeschool families prefer secular material in their homeschool) that this isn’t a religious news program. The stories are not religious stories. They are a Christian company that shares the news with teens. So don’t feel like you can’t use this program in your homeschool because you use secular material. I think it has value for all homeschool approaches.
How To Watch The News
As for streaming this news for teens, we watched it on our P.C., Android Phone, and iPad with no problems. We typically watched the news on my iPad each morning at breakfast or while we ate lunch.
One thing I wished we could do is cast the news to our T.V through our Google device.
Watching the Teen News with My Kids
My daughter, 14, and I watched WORLD Watch together. In addition, my 12-year-old son joined us occasionally. Though the news was appropriate for him, he is not interested in world news enough to focus on it. So he typically watched it a couple of times a week with us. I have found, though, as the weeks went by, he began joining us more.
Overall, my girl really enjoys this news program. She stated she really likes the news anchor, The Big Bash. His name is Brian Bashman. He has a strong voice that works well reporting the news. Though, she did like all the reporters for the various news segments.
This news program captured my girl’s attention (mine too). She liked the mix of stories; they weren’t all serious and filled with dread about the world around you. Some were just fun.
Another thing she liked was how things were explained so teens could understand them. For instance, one segment was all about credit scores. They explained what a credit score is and how it is determined. They always explain terms in their broadcast to make sure teens understand what they are talking about. That’s what seems to set them apart from other news programs.
My daughter has been highly interested in current events and following the top news stories since watching WORLD Watch. She has become reasonably informed about the world around her. She really likes having discussions with us about what’s going on.
Final Thoughts
Overall, teens will find excellent information, informative news stories, and fun facts too. WORLD Watch does an excellent job mixing up the stories and keeping teens informed about the world around them.
This teen news program is an excellent addition to any homeschool. Families can discuss the current events in an age-appropriate manner each day.
Another great way to use this news program is to have your kids do further research on a story that piques their interest. There are many science and history topics discussed. Plus, with segments like What in the Word, you can have kids look into the history of other words or phrases. I have found many of the stories are a great starting point for doing more in-depth studies.
Plus, watching the news each day is great family time together. It is an excellent way for kids to discuss their world and make sense of it with their families.
WORLD Watch does an excellent job sharing world news with teens and families. We have enjoyed it. Now check out what other families thought by clicking the banner below.
