Over the years, I’ve had a lot of opportunities to teach children from 18 months up to high school years. I think I had the most fun with preschoolers out of all those ages and grades. Honestly, I’m a kid at heart. So, I decided to go back to my preschool teacher days and make some fun Valentine’s Day math activities for preschoolers.
Teaching little ones their numbers can be so much fun! You can find many exciting ways to help them read, write, and count numbers. I remember using pudding and sand for writing numbers. We’d use bears, cars, and so many little items around the classroom for counting. Plus, we had Montessori textured number cards to help with recognition and writing numbers using multiple senses.
So, with Valentine’s Day coming up, I decided to create some cute Valentine’s Day math activities preschoolers could use to practice their numbers. Practice makes perfect, right?
Valentine’s Day Math Activities for Preschool
I have two different packets for preschoolers. Actually, these math activities could be used with kindergarteners. After all, everyone learns at a different rate. Some kiddos are ready for numbers in preschool, and some are ready in kindergarten.
Valentine’s Day Math Activity #1
The first preschool math activity I’ve included is to practice recognizing, writing, and one-to-one correspondence (saying the number and counting out the correct number of items) of numbers 1-10. Plus, kids get to practice some cutting skills. So, between writing and cutting, kids work on fine motor skills too. Also, kids can color the numbers and pictures on each sheet.
Here is the first Valentine’s Day math activity packet. Download and print. It’s that simple.
Valentine’s Math Preschool Activity #2
Your little one will count the hearts and circle the number in this next activity. After they can practice even further by coloring the correct number of hearts for themselves. Again, this helps them understand the number equals a set amount.
Below is the second preschool math activity. Again, it is a simple print-and-go worksheet . No prep work involved.
If you have a little one that struggles with coloring the correct number of hearts, here is something you can try.
- Give them some fun items like the cute little Valentine erasers, Valentine M&Ms, conversation hearts, etc.
- Now have your kiddo place the items on top of the hearts in the box.
- After, they can place them on top of the hearts to color.
- Then they can remove the heart and color the one underneath.
Other Valentine’s Day Activities
I always liked adding in Valentine’s activities throughout the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. For instance, I would break up the two Valentine’s Day math activities over two different days.
If you are looking for other fun activities for kids, I have a few other things you and your kids might enjoy. Check it out.
