Hi, I’m Sharon Rowley, a homeschool mom, former teacher, and the creator behind The Secret Life of Homeschoolers. I live in a small rural town in Maine with my husband, two kids, our cat, and a rabbit that always seems to keep life interesting. Between homeschooling, scouting adventures, keeping up with a teenager’s schedule, and a kiddo in college, I am always busy.
My journey in education started more than 20 years ago as a fourth-grade teacher. Over the years, I taught special education, ran my own daycare and preschool, and eventually found myself homeschooling my own two children. Each step taught me something valuable about how kids learn best: through curiosity, creativity, connection, and real-life experiences. Homeschooling gave me the freedom to create the kind of learning environment I always wanted for children: meaningful, flexible, and full of joy.
I know firsthand that homeschooling can feel overwhelming at times. There are so many choices, opinions, and pressures that it’s easy to wonder if you’re doing enough. That’s why I created this space. I wanted to help families bring more fun, confidence, and simplicity into their homeschool days. Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of teaching numerous children through classrooms, preschool programs, 4-H, scouting, and homeschooling. That’s why I’m spending my time now creating educational activities and resources that help families learn together in meaningful, manageable ways. My goal isn’t to create a picture-perfect homeschool. It’s to help you build a homeschool life that works for your family.
